Episode 25 – Adapting Your Game for a Scottish Golf Trip with Virgil Herring

What preparation can be done to get the best out of your game while golfing in Scotland? We are joined by co host Cruden Bay Golf Club’s Teaching Professional Murray Patterson and elite performance coach Virgil Herring, former coach of Brandt Snedeker. After listening to this episode you will be ready to bring your best game during that dream golf trip to Scotland.

Virgil notes that golfers should club up frequently while playing in a wind on Scotland’s links. Too many golfers try to take their game to Scotland without consideration of adapting to the Scottish game. Reducing spin is an art and Virgil explains how swing mechanics and decision making are key principles to enjoying your golf in Scotland.

Latterly we discuss Virgil’s experience in working with the US junior game and the current state of the game in the United States. Virgil believes the golf industry in the US is facing an interesting dilemma to make the game attractive to the impatient youth of today. Further to this we discuss the social benefit the game of golf can have on society with golf returning to the Olympics in Rio in 2016.
