Episode 104: PGA Tour’s Jim Herman Recaps His British Open Debut And Recent Scottish Golf Trip

PGA Tour winner Jim Herman makes his second appearance on the podcast to relive his Open Championship debut earlier this year at Royal Troon where he would return just a few months later during a buddies golf trip to Scotland.

Herman, thanks in part to his victory at the Shell Houston Open was eligible for a spot in the Open Championship field due to his world ranking and would go on to relish the opportunity finding himself with a very late tee time (5th last group) come Sunday.

It will be a week that will live long in the memory for me also. Jim was kind enough to provide me with a player pass for the Tuesday practise round where I was able to walk the course and hear his thoughts all in the company of a number of major champions including VJ Singh and Ernie Els.

The trip which followed in October was a year in the planning. Made up of 8 friends, 8 days and 10 rounds.

Day 1 – Trump Turnberry (arrival day)

Day 2 – Prestwick Golf Club

Day 3 – Western Gailes

Day 4 – Royal Troon

Day 5 – Jubilee St Andrews

Day 6 – Elie

Day 7 – Old Course, St Andrews

Day 8 – Carnoustie

Highlights included playing with golfing legend Sandy Lyle at Prestwick and the opportunity to spend a boozy lunch inside the Royal & Ancient Golf Club in St Andrews before teeing it up on the Old Course in the second last tee time of the day.
